Diodes Incorporated AP3983x Primary-Side Power Switchers deliver improved conversion efficiency, voltage and current accuracy, and protection functions. These devices utilize a built-in MOSFET to regulate the output voltage and current on the primary side. This is handled by piece-wise Pulse Frequency Modulation (p-PFM) in Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM). The system operating frequency reduces linearly from heavy load to light load in each interval of the p-PFM. It enters constant current mode when the load current equals the maximum system output current. These Switchers have built-in fixed cable voltage drop compensation. The AP3983B/C/R are offered in an SO-7 package that delivers output powers up to 10W.
