The bq34z950 SBS-compliant gas gauge and protection IC, incorporatingpatented Impedance Track technology, is a single IC solution designed forbattery-pack or in-system installation. The bq34z950 measures and maintains anaccurate record of available charge in Li-Ion or Li-Polymer batteries using itsintegrated high-performance analog peripherals. The bq34z950 monitors capacitychange, battery impedance, open-circuit voltage, and other critical parametersof the battery pack which reports the information to the system host controllerover a serial-communication bus. SMBus and single-wire DQ communicationinterfaces are both available. Together with the integrated analog front-end(AFE) short-circuit and overload protection, the bq34z950 maximizesfunctionality and safety while minimizing external component count, cost, andsize in smart battery circuits.
The implemented Impedance Track gas gauging technology continuously analyzesthe battery impedance, resulting in superior gas-gauging accuracy. This enablesremaining capacity to be calculated with discharge rate, temperature, and cellaging all accounted for during each stage of every cycle with highaccuracy.
