UCAM-III

4D Systems uCAM-III (microCAM-III) Serial Camera Module is a highly integrated, low power camera module for embedded imaging applications. The uCAM-III is the revised version of the 4D Systems uCAM-II. The revised module is backward compatible, interchangeable, and includes additional features. These new features include an upgrade of 128KB of RAM for greater control of complex imaging. The uCAM-III was also upgraded with new commands for exposure, contrast and brightness control, and adjustable sleep timeouts. A hardware reset on the 5-way header pin is an additional feature added to the uCAM-III. The uCAM-III attaches to any host system that requires a video camera or a JPEG compressed still camera. A CMOS VGA color sensor and JPEG compression chip allow for an efficient camera system. The module connects directly to any host microcontroller UART or PC system COM port through an onboard serial interface (TTL). The uCAM-III allows image output in both RAW and JPEG format. User commands are sent using a simple serial protocol. For viewing of single-frame, raw images, the protocol instructs the camera to send low resolution (80x60 to 160x120) images. For storage or viewing JPEG images, the protocol instructs the camera to send high-resolution (160x128 to 640x480) images. The uCAM-III module comes with a 5-wire connector and a standard 56 degree angle lens. 76 degree or 116 degree lens options are also available.
