The PolyZen ZEN056V230A16LS series from TE Connectivity are polymer enhanced precision Zener diode micro-assemblies that aid in the protection of sensitive electronics from damage caused by inductive voltage spikes, voltage transients, incorrect power supply use and reverse bias. The TE Connectivity PolyZen ZEN056V230A16LS series provide resettable protection against multi-watt fault event damage and require only 0.7W of power dissipation. Should a sustained high power condition occur, the PPTC element of the device will ’trip’ to limit current as well as generate a voltage drop. This functionality of the PolyZen ZEN056V230A16LS series aids in the protection of both the Zener and the follow-on electronics - further increasing the diode’s power handling capacity.
Helps shield downstream electronics from overvoltage and reverse bias
Trip events shut out overvoltage and reverse bias sources
Analog nature of trip events minimise upstream inductive spikes
Helps reduce design costs with single component placement and minimal heat sinking requirements
The PolyZen micro-assembly combines a Zener diode, enabling precise voltage clamping as well as a resistively non-linear, polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) layer that responds to either diode heating or overcurrent events by transitioning from a low to high resistive state.
